The German brand with a 100-year tradition, Leica Camera, will hold the photo exhibition: O! LEICA 2020: LOBA – AFTER THE RAINBOW, capturing the relationship between people and the environment, in Jeju-do.
The special point of this exhibition are the works of the 12 finalists in 2020 of the international photography award held every year by Leica Camera Global. The Leica Oskar Barnack Award (hereafter LOBA), are presented in one place. With the common subject of ‘the relationship between people and the environment’, the photography award celebrates this year’s 40th anniversary. For this special exhibition exclusively presented in Korea, the sub-title, AFTER THE RAINBOW, was chosen. It signifies that from life following catastrophes and wars and scenes of tragedy arising in places throughout the globe, the journey to overcoming and surviving them by individual means, can be experienced.
The exhibition center is composed of the works of LOBA 2020’s 12 finalists, including the final winner Luca Locatelli and Gonçalo Fonseca, who received the newcomer award. As the first Korean to advance as a LOBA 2020 finalist, photographer Namhun Sung’s Red Island, capturing the Jeju 4.3 incident, can also be viewed at this exhibition.
A Leica Camera representative expressed, “The O! LEICA exhibition is Leica’s exclusive photo exhibition held every year since 2017. O! LEICA, as an exclamation denoting surprise, is a pointed phrase unambiguously expressing Leica’s iconic original red logo. Each year, the sub-title is chosen to capture the zeitgeist of that year. This year especially, more than any other, the subject and spirit of the LOBA photography award consist of content everyone can identify with.”
The exhibition will run from 17th December to January 17th, 2021, at GONGBECH in Jeju island.
